The Hito Bielschowsky OptimStain™ Kit offers a simplified and reliable approach to Bielschowsky’s silver staining, a classic method for visualizing axons, neurofibrillary tangles, nerve fibers, and senile plaques. This kit ensures stable, high-quality results with minimal background or artifacts, while allowing flexible slide processing in both small and large batches. The developing step can be controlled slide by slide for optimal differentiation. Extensively tested on brains, spinal cords, and peripheral nerves across multiple species, it provides a sensitive and efficient solution for demonstrating fine morphological details in neurofibrils and axons.

Bielschowsky’s silver staining is commonly used to demonstrate axons, neurofibrillary tangles, nerve fibers, and senile plaques. This technique improved upon the method developed by Fajersztajn, who initially applied the silver mirror reaction to tissue staining. Max Bielschowsky, a German neuropathologist, refined the method by using a silver nitrate solution to incubate formalin‑fixed frozen sections, followed by ammoniacal silver, a reducing solution, and sodium thiosulfate to remove unreduced silver. Although widely adopted, traditional Bielschowsky staining procedures require large volumes of solution, are costly, time‑consuming, and often yield inconsistent results.

The Hito Bielschowsky OptimStain™ Kit offers a simple solution to these challenges. With simplified procedures, the kit delivers stable and improved staining quality, minimizing overstains, background, and artifacts. Users can process slides in both large and small quantities without wasting solutions, and the developing step can be controlled slide by slide for optimal staining and differentiation.

Extensively tested on brains, spinal cords, and peripheral nerves from several animal species, the Hito Bielschowsky OptimStain™ Kit has proven to be sensitive and reliable for demonstrating the morphological details of axons and intracellular neurofibrils. A simple and effective solution for your research.
