Golgi-Cox staining is a classic method for visualizing neurons and glia, particularly dendritic branching and spines. Traditional protocols are slow, yield few stained cells, and often produce inconsistent results.

The Hito Golgi-Cox OptimStain™ Kit simplifies the process, reduces preparation time, and delivers stable, high-quality staining with minimal artifacts. It is compatible with cryostat sectioning at -19ºC or paraffin sections using a microtome. The standard kit supports up to 50 mouse brains.

Extensively tested on brain, spinal cord, and heart tissues across multiple species, this kit provides a reliable solution for detailed morphological studies.

Note: Solution-1 contains toxic reagents and is supplied in two parts (Stock and Prepare Solution) for safe handling and transport.

Golgi-Cox staining, also known as Golgi-Cox impregnation, is one of the most elegant and effective procedures for studying the morphology of neurons and glia. It remains a primary technique for visualizing dendritic branching patterns and dendritic spines, allowing isolation and visualization of dendritic arbours from a small random fraction of neurons in a given brain area. Golgi techniques are widely used not only for anatomical studies but also in research examining behavioral-morphological relationships. Applications include identifying autonomic innervations in the heart and peripheral tissues.

Traditional Golgi-Cox staining is time-consuming, requires a vibratome, yields relatively few stained cells, and often produces inconsistent results. The Hito Golgi-Cox OptimStain™ Kit, designed based on methods by Glaser and Van der Loos, provides significant improvements. Procedures are simplified, processing time is reduced, and staining quality is stable and reliable with minimal overstaining and artifacts.

Users can employ a cryostat set at –19ºC for sectioning, or alternatively prepare paraffin sections with a microtome. The Standard Kit supports up to 50 mouse brains. Extensively tested on brains, spinal cords, and hearts from several animal species, this kit is sensitive for demonstrating morphological details of neurons and glia.

Safety Note: Solution-1 contains toxic reagents. For safe handling and transport, it is supplied in two parts (Stock Solution and Prepare Solution). The Stock Solution is individually wrapped according to the highest shipping standards.
