The Hito Golgi-Cox OptimStain™ Kit, designed based on the methods described by Glaser and Van der Loos, provides a dramatic improvement over the traditional Golgi-Cox technique. Procedures are simplified, processing time is greatly reduced, and the kit delivers stable, high-quality staining with minimal overstaining and artifacts when used properly.
The Standard Kit supports up to 50 mouse brains. It has been extensively tested on brains, spinal cords, and hearts from several animal species, proving to be sensitive for demonstrating morphological details of neurons and glia. This kit offers a simple and effective solution for your research.
Safety & Shipping Note: Solution-1 contains reagents that are toxic and harmful. Shipping hazardous materials typically results in higher costs and longer delivery times. To address this, the PreKit option is available for customers who can obtain Mercury (II) chloride and Potassium dichromate from other vendors. These chemicals can then be added to the PreKit (Solution-1 Prepare Solution) for fast and safe usage of the kit.
Golgi-Cox staining, also known as Golgi-Cox impregnation, is one of the most effective procedures for studying the morphology of neurons and glia. It remains a primary technique for visualizing dendritic branching patterns and dendritic spines, allowing isolation and visualization of dendritic arbours from a small random fraction of neurons in a given brain area. Golgi techniques are widely used not only for anatomical studies but also in research examining behavioral-morphological relationships. Applications include identifying autonomic innervations in the heart and peripheral tissues.
Traditional Golgi-Cox staining is time-consuming, requires a vibratome, yields relatively few stained cells, and often produces inconsistent results. The Hito Golgi-Cox OptimStain™ Kit, designed based on methods by Glaser and Van der Loos, provides significant improvements. Procedures are simplified, processing time is reduced, and staining quality is stable and reliable with minimal overstaining and artifacts.
Users can employ a cryostat set at –19ºC for sectioning, or alternatively prepare paraffin sections with a microtome. The Standard Kit supports up to 50 mouse brains. Extensively tested on brains, spinal cords, and hearts from several animal species, this kit is sensitive for demonstrating morphological details of neurons and glia.
